Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has launched the first urban vertical farm inside food markets and stores.
The farm represented a remarkable milestone enabling customers to directly obtain fresh vegetables and fruits from stores and markets.
Hosted by Danube markets in Riyadh in April, the vertical farm marked the first farm of its kind in the region.
It boasted various commercial units showcasing a variety of plants and agricultural products, for instance, broccoli, parsley, lettuce, and coriander.
The initiative was implemented by one of the pioneering bioagriculture companies using artificial intelligence and modern technologies.

Vertical farming is a revolutionary concept that aims to maximize food production in urban areas, making efficient use of limited land and resources.
With ongoing advancements, vertical farming can play a critical role in achieving global food security and sustainable development goals by providing locally grown, nutritious food.
It offers increased food production capacity and enhances water security through the use of efficient irrigation systems. Moreover, it reduces the dependence on pesticides, promoting healthier and safer food production.
In expanding this concept, Saudi Arabia is not just improving people’s health and lifestyle, it is, in fact, crafting a vision for a more sustainable future.
