Jeddah will host the International Conference of the Saudi Society for Genetic Medicine from September 30 to October 1, 2026, under the theme “From Diagnosis to Treatment in Genomics.” The conference will be held at the InterContinental Hotel in Jeddah and will bring together 30 speakers from inside and outside the Kingdom.
Alia bint Abdulrahim Al-Qari, Chairwoman of the Society’s Board of Directors, said the conference will serve as a scientific platform for exchanging expertise, discussing developments in genetic medicine, and strengthening communication among specialists. She noted that this will help improve services for beneficiaries and raise awareness of genetic diseases, within a healthcare sector that enjoys strong support from the Kingdom’s leadership.
Deputy Chairman of the Society, Prof. Zuhair bin Abdullah Al-Rahbeeni, said the conference targets more than 300 specialists in pediatrics, genetics, and metabolic disorders, as well as researchers, laboratory technicians, genetic counselors, and professionals from other medical fields. He added that the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties has accredited 13 continuing medical education hours, in addition to hours for the accompanying workshops.
Dr. Mohammed Khalid Al-Wusaiya, conference president and chair of its scientific committee, said the program includes 10 scientific sessions featuring 30 research papers, along with four specialized workshops on metabolic emergencies, therapeutic nutrition, the interpretation of molecular results, and genetic counseling. A community awareness program will also be held at the conclusion of the conference.
He said the conference will also include a competition for the best research paper, with three winners selected to encourage researchers and students, develop their research capabilities, and promote the exchange of knowledge in genetic medicine.
