Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Wildlife (NCW), in collaboration with the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, has issued the Kingdom’s first-ever license, permitting regulated cage diving with sharks in the Ras Hatiba Reserve, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The license aims to boost the development of sustainable marine tourism within protected marine reserves, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to observe sharks in their natural habitat while protecting marine life and maintaining ecological balance.
This initiative reflects the center’s efforts in fostering awareness of the significance of marine species and supporting the environmental role of sharks in balancing marine ecosystems.
The license perfectly aligns with national regulations governing marine activities, ensuring that ecotourism does not disrupt marine species or their natural habitats,
Furthermore, the NCW stressed that all activities under this initiative will be carried out under direct technical supervision and ongoing monitoring.
Hence, the center will ensure full compliance with top scientific standards and internationally recognized practices, ongoing environmental impact assessments, and the highest levels of safety.
By issuing this license, Saudi Arabia strengthens its presence in the field of marine life protection and the development of sustainable ecotourism in reserves and natural sites.
