The Red Sea Film Foundation has announced that Sidewalk 17 and Soulmate won the sixth edition of the 48-Hour Film Challenge, while On My Behalf received a special mention from the jury.
The foundation selected 13 teams from 127 applications submitted by emerging filmmakers from across Saudi Arabia.
Held in cooperation with Alliance Française and the Consulate General of France in Jeddah, the challenge gives participants an intensive, hands-on filmmaking experience covering every stage of production—from developing the initial idea and writing the screenplay to filming, editing, and submitting the final film.
The two winning teams will receive the 48-Hour Film Challenge trophies. In addition, each team leader will have the opportunity to take part in an international residency in France in 2027. The two winning films will also be screened during the next edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival.
The challenge forms part of the Red Sea Film Foundation’s year-round programs, which aim to support young talent and develop their filmmaking skills.
