The Red Sea Film Foundation has chosen 15 teams to compete in the sixth edition of its “48‑Hour Film” challenge. The teams were chosen out of a record 127 applications from emerging filmmakers across the Kingdom.
The challenge is held in partnership with Alliance Française and the Consulate General of France in Jeddah. It invites Saudi nationals and residents aged 18–25 to take part in an intensive, hands‑on filmmaking program. The program cover idea development and scriptwriting through shooting, production and post‑production. Each team must deliver a finished short film at the end of the 48‑hour timed period.

Participants will first attend mentoring and training workshops led by three filmmakers and creative practitioners, including sessions on production design, filmmaking and screenwriting. Additionally, the challenge requires teams to produce an original short based on assigned themes and to integrate a surprise prop or set element revealed shortly before filming begins.
Moreover, the two winning teams will each receive the 48‑Hour Film Challenge trophy. The leader of each winning team will be awarded an international residency in France in 2027. Both winning films will be screened at the next Red Sea International Film Festival.

The challenge forms part of the foundation’s year‑round talent development programs. By combining practical training, professional mentorship, teamwork and international exhibition opportunities. It also aims to help young filmmakers refine their creative voices, build industry experience and take their first steps in the film sector.
