Playformation: Saudi Artist Showcases Geological Heritage at AlUla Arts Festival 2026
Saudi artist Aseel Al-Amoudi unveils “Playformation: The Curve & The Dot” at AlUla Arts Festival 2026, transforming the region’s geological heritage into a dynamic, interactive experience, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The work reimagines design as a living extension of AlUla itself, embodying the desert’s shifting landscapes and its transformations over time.

Located in the Design Space AlUla within the vibrant AlJadidah Arts District, the work is based on extensive research undertaken during Al-Amoudi’s artist residency.
The installation was inspired by AlUla’s rock formations and the natural processes that sculpted the region’s topography.

The work incorporates sand benches sculpted to provide vivid image of AlUla’s geological layers and fault lines.
Instead of traditional urban furniture, the piece imagines a speculative “playscape”, a vibrant space that encourages both physical engagement and visual exploration.

By reimagining the seat as more than a place to rest—as a site of contemplation and play—Al-Amoudi offers a living dialogue between visitors and the ancient forces of erosion and transformation that have shaped AlUla’s desert floor.
Overall, Al-Amoudi’s work reflects AlUla’s emergence as a global creative destination, where the geological heritage meets with artistic practice.
