Al-Fasah Mosque: Historic Islamic Landmark in Madinah Restored to Its Former Glory

Situated at the base of Mount Uhud, north of Madinah, Al-Fasah Mosque stands as a poignant reminder of the Battle of Uhud, a defining moment in Islamic history. This revered site, where Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him – is said to have prayed, continues to draw visitors and pilgrims from across the world.
Al-Fasah Mosque
Renowned historian Dr. Fouad Al-Maghamsi, in an interview with the Saudi Press Agency, emphasized the mosque’s significance within the broader historical context of Uhud, which encompasses landmarks such as Jabal Al-Rumah and Wadi Qanat. Also referred to as Uhud Mosque or Sha’b Al-Jerar Mosque, Al-Fas-h has been carefully preserved and restored over the years.

“The remains of Al-Fasah Mosque, enclosed by a stone wall approximately one meter high on three sides, measure six meters in length and four meters in width,” explained Al-Maghamsi.
Constructed with durable black stones, the mosque has withstood the test of time and undergone multiple restoration efforts. Additionally, the most recent renovation took place during the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as part of a comprehensive initiative to revive and preserve historical sites.

Mosque’s Architecture
The mosque’s architecture, though simple, is distinctive, featuring a rectangular prayer area and a mihrab made of red bricks. Under the supervision of the Heritage Commission, recent restoration work has introduced a wooden roof, a floor adorned with intricately arranged yellow natural stones, paved walkways, seating areas, and informative signage to enhance the visitor experience.
Moreover, these efforts have not only preserved the mosque’s historical integrity but also ensured that it remains a meaningful destination for those seeking to connect with the rich heritage of Islam.
