The Makkah Region is steadily becoming greener as the regional branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and its governorate offices are accelerating afforestation efforts across the region.
During the first half of 2026, the initiative achieved remarkable milestones, reflecting a broader commitment to fostering environmental sustainability, diversifying green spaces, and restoring vegetation cover in line with the ecological ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.
More than 145,000 seedlings have been planted, while over 300 green initiatives have taken root in multiple locations to reinforce the ecological landscape.
The initiatives extend further into the rehabilitation of 91 farms spanning 4,300 hectares, where over 19,000 environmentally suitable seedlings have been introduced to restore vegetation and promote sustainable land management.
According to Eng. Waleed Al Dughays, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s Makkah Region branch, this notable progress shines a spotlight on the scale of the region’s ongoing environmental efforts and its dedication to advancing the ambitious objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
Looking ahead, Al Dughays also stressed the branch’s commitment to scaling up afforestation and land rehabilitation projects, noting that each new planting initiative contributes to a greener, more resilient Makkah Region.
