Jeddah’s Globe Roundabout Emerges as Vibrant Calendar of Saudi Events

The Globe Roundabout in Jeddah has become a dynamic “artistic calendar,” that records the city’s rhythm of celebration and national milestones, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

This landmark has emerged as a visual chronicle of major events, from the launch of Jeddah Season to the historic announcement of Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The Roundabout has featured vibrant installations inspired by drivers’ helmets ahead of Formula races.

Interestingly, the landmark also boasts a festive glow during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, illuminated in green and adorned with national flags for Saudi National Day, Founding Day, and Flag Day, while turning off its lights during Earth Hour.

Inaugurated in 1982 and designed by Spanish artist Julio Lafuente, the Globe Roundabout is one of Jeddah’s significant landmarks, depicting Saudi Arabia’s enduring openness to global cultural exchange.

Spanning 6,915 square meters with a diameter of 94 meter, the Roundabout features the globe itself at its center, 13 meters in height and 26.5 meters in diameter, crafted from glass and painted concrete.
