GEA Unveils High-Stakes Undercard for ‘Glory in Giza’ Boxing Event

Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and President of the Saudi Boxing Federation, Turki Al al-Sheikh, has officially shared the roster for the highly-anticipated “Glory in Giza” event.

Scheduled for May 23, 2026, the “Glory in Giza” will gather a premier group of international fighters to compete against the majestic backdrop of Egypt’s ancient Pyramids.

Organizers confirmed that the full card, developed alongside The Ring Magazine and supported by Matchroom Boxing, will be broadcast globally via DAZN.

The evening’s main attraction is a high-profile crossover clash between unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk and kickboxing standout Rico Verhoeven.

The heavyweight drama continues on the undercard as Frank Sanchez defends his WBC Americas and WBO NABO titles against a stiff challenge from the undefeated Richard Torrez Jr. in a matchup originally delayed from March.

The undercard further highlights two thrilling title fights. Hamzah Sheeraz takes on Alem Begic for the vacant WBO Super Middleweight world crown, marking Sheeraz’s first outing of 2026 following his impressive fifth-round stoppage of Edgar Berlanga in New York last summer.

Meanwhile, British star Jack Catterall challenges the unbeaten Uzbek contender Shakhram Giyasov for the WBA Regular welterweight title. Catterall enters the ring coming off a significant victory over Ekow Essuman this past November.

In a landmark moment for women’s boxing, Mizuki Hiruta will defend her The Ring and WBO titles against Australian-Egyptian challenger Mai Soliman. This bout serves as Hiruta’s seventh consecutive title defense and her debut on a major global main card.

The event also places a strong emphasis on homegrown talent, allowing Egyptian fighters to showcase their skills on a world stage.

Local cruiserweight Bassem Mamdouh will go head-to-head with undefeated American prospect Jamar Talley, while other emerging Egyptian athletes including Mahmoud Mubarak and Omar Heikal will face Michael Kalyala and Ali Sironkooma respectively.
