Renowned multimedia artist Quayola mesmerized audiences at the launch of Diriyah Art Futures (DAF), the first dedicated New Media Arts hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). His audiovisual performance, Transient: Impermanent Paintings, originally conceived in 2020, explores the fusion of human creativity and cutting-edge technology.
As part of DAF’s debut exhibition lineup, this immersive performance featured two motorized pianos and stunning video projections inspired by impressionist brushstrokes. These elements synchronized in real time to showcase the synergy between generative algorithms and artistic expression.
Quayola, celebrated for his ability to merge natural and artificial aesthetics, collaborated with musician and technologist Seta to craft this unique experience. Transient integrates complex algorithms to redefine traditional concert formats, blending improvisational music with dynamic, generative visuals.
Diriyah Art Futures aims to host more groundbreaking events like Transient, positioning itself as a hub for New Media and Digital Art innovation. Its inaugural exhibition, Art Must Be Artificial: Perspectives of AI in the Visual Arts, will run until February 15, 2025, offering workshops, performances, and interactive sessions.
In a recent statement, DAF reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a global leader in New Media Art. This weekend, November 29–30, it will host two masterclasses led by prominent exhibition artists.
