Brilliant Saudi Farmer Preserves Millet Traditional Cultivation

A brilliant Saudi farmer from Al-Makhwah governorate in the Baha region has devoted his entire life to protect the ancient tradition of millet cultivation in the Shada Mountains.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Hussein Al-Ghamdi has been fond of agriculture since a long time. He has been dedicated to preserve the traditions and transform then over generations.

Through the utilization of the region’s natural resources, the 80-year-old farmer has transformed barren slopes into fertile terraces. Therefore, they can produce various crops with millet as a staple.

Millet represents a resilient crop which is located at the region’s arid climate. It is an ingredient in local cuisine and is used to make dishes like bread and porridge.

Millet’s nutritional value has made it a staple food for centuries.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has underscored the significance of Millet cultivation.

So, it exerted various efforts to add the sense of modernity to the farming practices. This will significantly boost the crop’s nutritional benefits while expanding its cultivation area.

The annual millet festival in Al-Makhwah also plays a fundamental role in preserving the traditions and inspire Saudi youth to recognize the importance of cultivation.
