
In the heart of Sarawat, Al-Baha, southwestern Saudi Arabia, a strong and fascinating tree known as “wild olive,” has captured the attention of residents and visitors around the world.
The Al-Atam tree has gained a special significance in the heart of Sarawat people who depended on the tree for various life’s requirements, including construction materials and as a reagent in traditional medicine.
“Al-Atam is a resilient tree that thrives in the harsh conditions of the Sarawat Mountains. It can withstand drought, extreme temperatures and rocky terrain, making it a valuable resource for communities in the region,” the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

The tree is featured by its greenery and benefits, including the strength of its trunk and ability to bear huge weight.
SPA has met with several farmers in order to deeply delve into the history and importance of this amazing tree.
“It is a wonderful tree, even though it does not bear fruit. Its branches are strong and solid, and it can endure the harshest conditions,” Saleh Al-Saadi said.
Al-Saadi underscored Saudi Arabia’s biodiversity and said that the ideal climate for the Al-Atam tree is in the southern highlands along the Sarawat Mountains, from Abha in the southwest to Taif in the northwest.

Al-Baha region is distinguished by the beauty of nature, with its captivating green mountains and valleys, in which water flows. Located less than 30 kilometers from the high cliffs of the Sarawat mountains, Al-Baha impresses its visitors with picturesque old villages and traditional buildings.
It enjoys an exceptional landscape that has broken all the stereotypes of Saudi Arabia. With a unique combination of majestic mountains rising above 2000 meters, Al-Baha has surprised its visitors with its cool and humid climate in summer. The region boasts 53 forests and wildlife areas, including the forests of Raghdan, Ghomsan, Fayk, and Aljabal. Therefore, it is a perfect place for hiking, family picnics, or camping.
