
The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language has recently launched the “Camel Lexicon”, a comprehensive database about camels, as part of Falak platform for linguistic databases.
According to Arab News, the initiative basically targets scholars and researchers and provides extensive information on the cultural significance of camels in Saudi Arabian society.
At the end of 2023, the Saudi Cabinet officially named the year 2024 ‘the Year of the Camel’, celebrating the unique cultural value of camels in the Arabian Peninsula from the dawn of history up to the present day.
The academy’s Secretary-General, Abdullah Al-Washmi, stated that the new lexicon boosts the national identity and reflects the camel’s prestigious status in poetry, literature and daily life.
The initiative is part of Falak platform, a promising initiative dedicated to linguistic blogs representing a gateway to Arabic linguistic lexicons boating over 1.5 billion words from diverse contexts.
