A Saudi woman living in the US has successfully organized a community event called, Building Bridges Day, to strengthen ties between residents from various backgrounds in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the event featured various artworks and cultural performances by residents from different countries, and a Unity March across the city’s Roberto Clemente Bridge.
Ebtehal Badawi, the founder of the initiative, stated that she wanted to use art as an impressive means to create positive impacts on society and boost the idea of human unity among all nationalities. Badawi explained that she holds the occasion for the second time in a row, indicating that the last year witnessed great interaction prompting local authorities to adopt it annually.
“When we come together, we become stronger, and when we continue to build bridges together, we plant the seeds of love and acceptance among people, regardless of their race,” Badawi told the SPA.
She explained that her strong belief on the significance of fostering the community ties has led her to begin a new journey of building bridges of communication. The idea actually began five years ago with the participation of more than 5,000 male and female students in schools, universities and different segments of society.
Badawi hopes that Building Bridges Day would be an international day adopted and recognized by the United Nations to spread the culture of communication between people, regardless of their races and backgrounds.
