The Deputy Emir of the Makkah Region and Chairman of the National Evaluation Committee for Jeddah Governorate, Prince Saud bin Jalawi, awarded the winners of the Jeddah Season Chess Championship, organized by the Kataya Association under the supervision of the Makkah Region Branch of the Ministry of Sports.
The tournament featured 100 players from 13 countries, including 70 internationally ranked and 30 amateur players. It used a seven-round open Swiss system with ten minutes plus a five-second increment per move for each player. The total prize pool was 60,000 riyals. Hisham Abdul Rahman won the championship, receiving a trophy and 30,000 riyals. Ammar Sidrani took second place, winning 20,000 riyals, and Mohamed Haddouche finished third, earning 10,000 riyals.
This tournament is part of the Jeddah Season 2024 events held under the slogan “Once Again” to promote mental sports and contribute to developing thinking skills and creating an attractive sports environment. The aim is to enhance local tourism, attract visitors, and provide a unique entertainment experience. “Jeddah Season 2024” works on leveraging all the city’s tourist, historical, cultural, and maritime assets to diversify the options available to tourists and visitors of Jeddah.
