National Institute Launches Excellence in Health Research Award to Drive Innovation, Real-World Impact

The National Institute for Health Research recently launched a major new initiative. Specifically, it introduced the first edition of the “Excellence in Health Research Award.”
This program aims to actively stimulate innovation and overall research excellence. Furthermore, it strongly encourages the development of high-impact studies.
Ultimately, the overarching goal is to translate these research outputs into practical solutions and applications. As a result, these medical advancements will directly benefit community health.

The award comprises five tracks: Leading Research Institution in Clinical Trials, Best Company Contributing to the Development of Clinical Trials, Pioneering Institution in Translational Research, Nonprofit Institutions Supporting the Research Environment, and Innovator in Translating Health Research Outputs.
Winning projects will receive incubation, support and funding opportunities through the institute’s accelerators, while the cash prize for the “Innovator in Translating Health Research Outputs” track reaches SAR 100,000.

The award’s launch comes amid growth in the Kingdom’s health research sector, with the number of clinical trials rising by 53.4% in 2025, reinforcing the institute’s drive to build a competitive research environment and accelerate the translation of research into tangible health impact.
