The International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), in partnership with UNESCO and the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), has opened submissions for the research workshop that will accompany the Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence 2026.
The forum will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from Sept. 14 to 17, 2026, bringing together researchers, policymakers and experts to discuss the ethical governance of artificial intelligence.
The research workshop is accepting submissions in two categories: research paper abstracts and panel session proposals. The call is open to researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers and students worldwide.

Moreover, the announcement comes as UNESCO marks the fifth anniversary of its Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, the only globally agreed normative framework for AI ethics.
Submissions are invited on a range of topics related to AI ethics and governance, including the implementation of UNESCO’s recommendation across different national and institutional contexts; the use of its Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) and Ethical Impact Assessment (EIA) tools; international cooperation and partnerships in AI governance; integrating ethical principles into the design, development, deployment and oversight of AI systems; and the impact of emerging technologies on policy areas such as education, health, culture, communication, information and the environment. Organizers also encourage forward-looking research on the future of ethical AI governance.
Additionally, all submissions will be evaluated through a peer-review process. Selected papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of AI for Sustainable Development (JAISD).
The deadline for submitting abstracts and panel proposals is July 18, 2026. The research workshop is scheduled for Sept. 14, with the accepted proceedings and abstracts set to be published on Oct. 31, 2026.
