The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Heritage Commission, has introduced a new guide aimed at protecting intellectual property rights within the handicrafts sector. The initiative seeks to increase awareness among artisans and craft practitioners by equipping them with the legal knowledge needed to safeguard innovations and designs inspired by the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.
According to SAIP, the guide outlines the key regulations and legal frameworks that protect artisans’ rights. It also highlights the importance of using intellectual property tools to help transform traditional handicrafts into protected, sustainable economic assets.
The guide is publicly available through SAIP’s official website (www.saip.gov.sa) and serves as a comprehensive reference for individuals working in the handicrafts field. It explains how to register various forms of intellectual property, including trademarks, industrial designs, copyrights, and patents related to handcrafted products such as textiles, palm-based crafts, woodwork, leather goods, pottery, embroidery, metalwork, traditional building materials, and rosaries.
This publication is part of the continued collaboration between SAIP and the Ministry of Culture and supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to drive economic development and expand the role of creative industries in the national economy.
Through this effort, SAIP seeks to strengthen the intellectual property ecosystem both locally and globally while promoting greater awareness of its regulations through ongoing outreach initiatives.
