Holy Capital, Eastern Province Municipalities Launch “Municipal Innovation Hackathon 2026”
The Holy Capital Municipality and the Eastern Province Municipality have launched the Municipal Innovation Hackathon 2026 in cooperation with the Digital Government Authority and Makkah Valley Technology Company, with the participation of several technology partners.
The hackathon aims to attract innovators, developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and specialists in artificial intelligence, data, and emerging technologies to develop innovative solutions that improve municipal services and harness modern technologies.
The event includes five main tracks:
- Urban development and smart cities.
- Environmental sustainability and quality of life.
- Beneficiary experience and digital services.
- Emerging technologies and data management.
- Spending efficiency and financial sustainability.
Applications will remain open until September 28. The selected teams will be announced on October 7, followed by remote training, coaching, and mentoring workshops from October 8 to 10. The projects will be presented and the final evaluation will take place on October 25 at the Makkah Valley Technology Company headquarters.
Participants may compete in teams of three to five members. The total cash prize pool for the winning teams is 75,000 Saudi riyals.
The Municipal Innovation Hackathon 2026 is part of efforts to promote a culture of innovation and enable innovators to turn their ideas into practical technology solutions. It also seeks to improve municipal services and beneficiary experiences while strengthening cooperation between government entities and the private sector.
