Sports centers, gyms and academies across Jazan Region are seeing rising participation from all age groups during the summer holiday, as young people, school and university students, and families use their free time to exercise, build skills and improve physical fitness.
A total of 414 sports facilities now serve practitioners in the region, reflecting the breadth of available options and providing diverse environments that cater to different interests. These facilities include 273 male and female gyms, 104 sports academies, 25 specialized clubs, six diving centers and six training institutes.
Their programs range from fitness, swimming, diving and bodybuilding to team and individual sports, martial arts and skills development, along with dedicated training for children and young people. As a result, the summer period has become an active season for joining sports centers and academies and benefiting from their offerings.

The increase in participation is supported by wider efforts to upgrade sports infrastructure. Jazan Municipality has developed 234 sports walkways totaling 215 kilometers across Jizan city and the region’s governorates, as part of plans to enhance sports and recreational facilities near residential areas, waterfronts and parks.
King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Sport City, a major multi-purpose complex in Jazan, also plays a central role in hosting matches and sporting events. The facility includes a main stadium, indoor halls for basketball, volleyball, handball, swimming, judo and karate, as well as outdoor fields and youth spaces.
According to data from the General Authority for Statistics, around 58 percent of Jazan Region’s population engages in sports on a weekly basis, making it one of the Kingdom’s most active regions in terms of sports and recreational activities.

Staff at several centers report a clear increase in subscriptions and training programs during the summer, particularly among young people and students. Sports academies are drawing those who want to learn new disciplines, improve their performance and make productive use of their vacation through structured programs that combine training and leisure.
Participants say the wide range of centers, gyms and academies has expanded their options for physical activity, helping them maintain regular exercise routines, acquire new skills and adopt healthier habits, while turning part of their holiday into sustained sporting engagement.

The expansion of sports facilities and programs aligns with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program, which seeks to boost sports participation, promote healthy lifestyles and enhance the sports sector’s contribution to the national economy. It also helps ensure that communities across Jazan have access to modern, well-equipped venues for a broad spectrum of sports and recreational activities.
