The State of Culture in the Kingdom 2024 report, issued today by the Ministry of Culture, confirmed the advanced position achieved by the Asir region in the field of cultural tourism. Asir ranked second nationwide in the number of domestic tourist trips linked to attending cultural festivals and events, recording more than 1.9 million trips, while Riyadh topped the list with 3.7 million trips.

Visits to Historical, Heritage Sites
The report also indicated that Asir ranked third in tourist trips that included visits to historical, heritage, and archaeological sites, with 920,000 trips, reaffirming its prominent presence on the national cultural tourism map alongside Riyadh and Medina.
The report highlighted that the growth of cultural tourism in Asir reflects the diversity of its tourism patterns and their connection to the region’s natural and environmental assets. Events and activities held in the mountainous cities and governorates—such as Abha, Al-Namas, Tanomah, and Rijal Almaa—have become major destinations for domestic tourists, amid a general trend of increasing demand for cultural and heritage experiences.

Saudi Vision 2030
The report further explained that these positive indicators align with the vision of the Ministry of Culture and the Asir Development Authority, which aim to enhance culture’s role as an economic and tourism driver and to support the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in making Asir one of the Kingdom’s leading tourist and cultural destinations both locally and internationally.
Last year, Asir hosted several major cultural events, including:
-
The third edition of the Qemam International Festival for Mountain Performing Arts
-
The Writers and Readers Festival
-
The Traditional Foods Festival
-
The Asir Manuscripts Exhibition
