Saudi Arabia, Bahrain Foster Maritime Connectivity with New Sea Route

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are planning to boost their bilateral cooperation with a new passenger sea route that officials say will enhance maritime ties and unleash new avenues for regional connectivity, according to Gulf News.

Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, announced the plan during the Second Maritime Industries Sustainability Conference in Jeddah.

The new route is set to connect Bahrain’s Khalifa bin Salman Port with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. Officials anticipated that the route would foster passenger and cargo transport while bolstering collaboration between both kingdoms.

Furthermore, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that talks are underway regarding the long-anticipated King Hamad Causeway project, which would further strengthen connectivity and economic integration between two Gulf nations.

The causeway, set to run parallel to the existing King Fahd Causeway, would span nearly 25 kilometers and include passenger trains, freight trains, and vehicles. It aims to reduce congestion on the current crossing while boosting trade and travel links between both nations.
