Dubai Ranks 11th Globally and Tops Arab World in Best Maritime Capitals 2024

Dubai has achieved another global milestone, securing the top position in the Arab world and ranking 11th globally in the Best Maritime Capitals 2024. This marks a two-place improvement over its previous ranking in 2022, according to a report by Menon Economics and DNV GL, two Singapore-based firms specializing in evaluating global maritime capitals.
Evaluation Criteria for Best Maritime Capitals List
The ranking is based on five key factors:
- Shipping centers
- Technology
- Ports and logistics
- Attractiveness and competitiveness
- Financial and legal aspects
The report highlights Dubai’s significant progress, particularly in green technology and eco-friendly tourism.
Dubai Maritime Authority’s Efforts Drive Success
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, commented on the achievement: “Dubai’s impressive rise in the global maritime rankings reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to elevate Dubai’s position on the global maritime map.”
He added, “Dubai’s entrance into the ranks of global maritime leaders highlights the success of Dubai Maritime Authority and Dubai Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation in implementing strategic plans that have boosted the maritime sector’s competitiveness, positioning it as a key driver of sustainable growth.”
Bin Sulayem also praised the efforts of the corporation’s specialized teams, whose work contributed to this achievement, further solidifying Dubai’s position as a global maritime leader.
