The Red Sea Film Foundation has unveiled the jury for the upcoming fifth edition of its 48-Hour Film Challenge. The panel includes Saudi presenter and actor Yasser Al Saggaf, Lebanese actress and director Carmen Bsaibes, and French-Moroccan filmmaker and actor Ayoub Layoussifi.
Each member brings a wealth of experience from Arab and international cinema, with notable achievements in both directing and acting. Their combined expertise promises a balanced and insightful evaluation process, offering constructive feedback to help participants grow as filmmakers.
International Collaboration
The challenge is organized in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Jeddah, the Embassy of France in Saudi Arabia, Alliance Française, and the Centre for French Culture. Additionally, this initiative is dedicated to empowering emerging Saudi filmmakers through a high-intensity creative competition built on collaboration, innovation, and storytelling.

The 14 shortlisted teams took part in an intensive preparatory workshop on July 11–12, 2025, led by acclaimed industry experts. The training equipped participants to handle the fast-paced challenge of producing a short film—from concept to final cut—within just 48 hours.
In September, all completed films will be showcased during two professional days focused on industry engagement. Participants will receive feedback through workshops and one-on-one mentorship sessions with Saudi and French film professionals.

Awards, Opportunities
Two winning teams will be selected based on creativity, technical skill, and storytelling impact. The winning team leaders will earn an exclusive filmmaking residency in France in 2026. Their films will also be screened at the 5th Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2025.
Now in its fifth year, the 48-Hour Film Challenge has become a key platform for discovering and nurturing independent filmmaking talent in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, many past participants have gone on to create new projects, present their work at film festivals, and take significant steps forward in their cinematic careers.
