Esports World Cup 2026 Opens Registration for Last Chance Qualifiers

The Esports Foundation has announced the official lineup and format for the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) tournaments that will determine the final entrants for eight competitions at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026, which will take place in Paris from July 6 to Aug. 23.

The LCQ program represents the final phase of qualification for EWC 2026, concluding the global Road to EWC campaign. The qualification pathway spans more than 230 tournaments and qualifying events worldwide and is expected to involve over 350,000 competitors across publisher ecosystems, regional leagues, and official circuits.

This year’s LCQ series will feature eight open tournaments in Counter-Strike 2, EA FC, Rocket League, TEKKEN 8, Chess, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6.

Scheduled to be held in Paris between July 5 and Aug. 10, the qualifiers will award the remaining EWC 2026 berths to 37 individual competitors and six Clubs.

Among the available spots are four Club berths in Counter-Strike 2 and one Club berth each in Rocket League and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. In EA FC, successful participants will advance to the Play-Ins stage, while winners in all other LCQ tournaments will secure direct qualification to the main event.

Jafonso Award

The Last Chance Qualifiers have produced some of the most memorable storylines in EWC history. In 2024, EA FC professional Joao “JafonsogV” Vasconcellos advanced through the LCQ before capturing the world championship title.

His run inspired the creation of the Jafonso Award, presented annually to players or teams that win an EWC championship after qualifying through the LCQ route.

In 2025, Team Falcons’ Overwatch roster became the first recipient of the award after claiming the OWCS Midseason Championship. The victory also played a key role in securing Falcons’ second consecutive Club Championship title.

That same year, chess grandmasters Nihal Sarin and Levon Aronian advanced to the playoff stage after qualifying for the inaugural EWC Chess main event through the LCQ.

The Esports World Cup 2026 will be hosted at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles and is expected to feature more than 2,000 players and 200 Clubs representing over 100 countries. Additionally, the event will include 25 tournaments across 24 game titles and offer a record prize pool exceeding $75 million.
