Saudi Arabia ranked first among 102 countries participating in World Space Week 2025, according to a report by the World Space Week Association (WSWA), in partnership with the United Nations.
The achievement was driven by national efforts led by the Ministry of Education and the Saudi Space Agency. It reflects growing public engagement with space science and increasing interest in science and technology across the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s participation reached approximately 36,000 schools, in addition to activities held at 31 universities, libraries, and public venues. The coordinated national campaign helped raise awareness of space science among students, young people, and the wider community, while strengthening the national profile of World Space Week.
The campaign received international recognition during the 63rd session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, held at the UN headquarters in Vienna.
During the session, Dr. Alma Okpalefi, Executive Director of the World Space Week Association, highlighted Saudi Arabia’s awareness campaign. She said coordination between the Saudi Space Agency and the Ministry of Education had enabled the initiative to reach audiences nationwide, describing the approach as a model other countries could adopt to expand space-science outreach and promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.
The campaign also reflects the agency’s strength in digital communication and public outreach. Its efforts earned four platinum awards at the international MarCom Awards, in addition to two Vega Digital Awards—one platinum and one gold—in recognition of its excellence in digital engagement and the production of innovative educational and awareness content.
