GEOSA President Elected Co-Chair of UN Geospatial Information Committee

President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) Dr. Mohammed bin Yahya Al-Sayel has been elected Co-Chair of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) during its 16th session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Al-Sayel expressed his pride in the confidence placed in him by member states and reaffirmed his commitment to working with the committee’s secretariat and bureau to strengthen international cooperation, support countries in developing their national geospatial systems, build technical capacity, and promote the exchange of expertise.

He also chairs the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Arab States (UN-GGIM: Arab States), with Saudi Arabia holding the committee’s chairmanship and general secretariat through GEOSA.

UN-GGIM serves as an international platform for coordinating countries’ efforts in the geospatial sector. Finally, it works to establish common frameworks and strategic directions that support the use of geospatial information in development and decision-making.
