Saudi Arabia has unveiled updated rules governing airline passengers carrying prescription medicines containing opiates, according to Gulf News.
Now all travelers arriving in or departing from the Kingdom must obtain a special permit before taking opiate-based medications on board.
The approval process will be overseen by the Kingdom’s competent authorities. Travelers must submit valid medical documentation and apply in advance to obtain permits.
Officials noted that the move aims to enhance passenger safety, prevent the misuse of controlled medications, and ensure smoother customs procedures across Saudi airports.
The Saudi authorities also noted that the new updates do not prohibit patients from carrying their prescribed medications. Instead, it ensures that their transport akigns with international standards.
They urged passengers to apply well in advance to avoid any potential travel delays.
