Diriyah’s Summer of Zallal Celebrates Arabic Calligraphy with Hands-On Experiences

Arabic calligraphy takes center stage at the Summer of Zallal, a vibrant cultural event held every Thursday and Friday in the Al-Bujairi District of Diriyah Governorate. Running through August 30, 2025, the event invites visitors of all ages to engage in interactive and creative experiences.
Among the most popular attractions are the Arabic calligraphy workshops, where guests can have their names artistically written in various traditional styles. Saudi calligrapher Ayman Al-Khadhra, speaking to the Saudi Press Agency, shared that he crafts names using a range of scripts—from Thuluth and Jeli Thuluth to Diwani and the ancient Kufic style. He emphasized that the enthusiastic participation of visitors highlights a growing appreciation for preserving cultural heritage.

The Zallal project itself is one of Diriyah’s landmark developments, spanning more than 53,000 square meters. It boasts seven modern buildings that host upscale restaurants, cafés, and spaces dedicated to cultural exhibitions and live performances.
