The “Al-Hammad” area, located east of Arar in the Northern Borders region, is considered one of the most prominent stations that migratory birds pass through during the hunting season, which begins in October each year. During this season, falconers from various regions of the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries race to capture migrating falcons.
Falconers from inside and outside the Kingdom flock to this region, which annually records a high percentage of precious falcon offerings, and achieves high sales at auctions.
Enthusiasts of this ancient heritage are keen to be present in the Al-Hamad region to enjoy the details of this exciting experience, which includes group desert trips, setting up tents, and acquiring falcons, along with various traditions such as playing the rababa, exchanging poems, and other popular arts prevalent in the northern regions of the Kingdom.
A number of enthusiasts have confirmed that these days are witnessing frequent trips to the deserts of the Northern Border region, specifically in the Hamad area, where wilderness camps are set up for youth groups with the aim of searching for rare falcons. Various tools are used in the process of hunting them, including the “Manshabiya,” a hunting net, along with other tools designated for this purpose.
