Syrian Transport Minister to Al Arabiya: Connectivity MoUs with Saudi Arabia Valid for 5 Years
Syria and Saudi Arabia recently signed two key memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These new agreements focus heavily on developing railways and land transport.
Consequently, Syrian Minister of Transport Yaarub Badr called the signing an important milestone. He noted that the deals will greatly enhance infrastructure connectivity between the two nations. Moreover, this improved network will directly contribute to increased flows of both people and goods.
Setting a Clear Timeframe
In a recent interview with Al Arabiya Business, Badr explained the operational details. First, the MoU sets a strict six-month timeframe. This initial period will be used to identify key points of contact.
Furthermore, it will help establish a comprehensive executive cooperation program. The agreement itself is valid for five years. Additionally, it will be automatically renewed upon mutual agreement by both countries.
Boosting International Trade Routes
Badr added that Damascus is heavily counting on this new cooperation. The government aims to rapidly develop its transport networks. Ultimately, this will heavily enhance overall trade movement.
As a result, these efforts will enable the construction of a much more efficient corridor. This vital land and rail route will seamlessly link Syria and Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, it will strongly support the broader movement of international goods. Specifically, it will streamline lucrative trade routes between Europe and the Gulf states.
Rehabilitating Syrian Infrastructure
The two strategic MoUs were officially signed on Thursday. Primarily, they are aimed at building local capacities and exchanging valuable expertise.
Additionally, the agreements will facilitate conducting necessary engineering and logistical studies. Consequently, these joint efforts will play a massive role in rehabilitating Syrian roads and railways.
Ultimately, this partnership is expected to revitalize transport movement. Furthermore, it will significantly boost trade exchange flowing through Syria.
