Dates Drive 44% Surge in Madinah’s Agricultural Sector Registrations

 The agricultural sector in Saudi Arabia’s Madinah region has posted the strongest growth among all economic sectors at 44%, fueled by major development projects underway across the region.

According to a report by the Madinah Chamber of Commerce, the number of commercial registrations in the sector rose from 375 in March 2025 to 540 in March 2026. The report underscored Madinah’s position as the Kingdom’s third-largest date-producing region, with annual output reaching 344,000 tons—equivalent to 18% of national production.

More than 26,000 palm farms across the region host over 8 million trees yielding a wide range of date varieties for local markets. Additionally, the region ships more than 41.5 million kilograms of dates each year to over 60 countries, while also supporting numerous food-processing initiatives and generating significant employment opportunities.

Madinah is home to 39 date-processing plants, placing it second among the Kingdom’s regions out of 161 facilities nationwide and accounting for 24% of all date-processing capacity. Moreover, these factories produce approximately 1.067 million tons of date products and derivatives annually. Of this, 785,500 tons are designated for packing and packaging, and Madinah’s date exports represent about 13% of the Kingdom’s total date shipments abroad.

Date processing, packing and export activities in Madinah have emerged as a leading commercial segment within an integrated economic framework that bolsters food manufacturing, enhances the added value of agricultural output, creates investment and job opportunities, and strengthens Saudi Arabia’s global export footprint.
