Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Use of Outer Space

A Saudi delegation, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Space Agency, took part in the 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held in Vienna from June 10 to 18.

Saudi Arabia’s participation underscored its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and advancing the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space. The Kingdom also used the forum to showcase its achievements in the space sector and highlight initiatives aligned with the committee’s objectives.

The delegation emphasized Saudi efforts to leverage space technologies in areas such as communications and environmental sustainability.

During the session, participants reviewed a range of key issues, including the long-term sustainability of outer space activities, implementation of the Space2030 Agenda, the future role and working methods of the committee, and reports submitted by its Scientific and Technical Subcommittee and Legal Subcommittee.

The Saudi delegation also outlined the Kingdom’s contributions to the sector, highlighting ongoing legislative and regulatory developments, including the Space Law project, its implementing regulations, and other governance frameworks overseeing space activities in Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the delegation presented a proposal aimed at enhancing the committee’s operational mechanisms and improving the efficiency of its work.
