The AlUla Artist Residency Programme has expanded its presence on the international design scene after several of its participants received awards at the fourth edition of the Design Award organized by the Arab World Institute in Paris.
Saudi architect and artist Aseel Alamoudi won the Emerging Talent Award for her project “Playformation,” which includes the seating pieces The Curve and The Dot. Their designs draw inspiration from AlUla’s rock formations and natural curves.
In the Contemporary Craftsmanship category, Altin Studio, founded by designers Yasmine and Mehdi, won for “Our AlUla Trilogy,” a project comprising three pieces titled Wadi, Waha, and Yusr. The works were crafted from palm wood, palm fiber, and plant-based fibers.
The project combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, drawing on AlUla’s landscapes and natural materials while evoking the palm cultures of Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.
The AlUla Artist Residency Programme hosts Saudi and international artists and designers, giving them the opportunity to develop their work through engagement with AlUla’s landscape, history, culture, and local community. Participants also draw inspiration from the destination’s natural materials and cultural elements.
The international awards received by the residency participants highlight the program’s growing impact beyond AlUla and reflect the destination’s wider cultural and artistic momentum through residency programs, exhibitions, festivals, and diverse creative events.
