Historic Jeddah’s rich cultural and architectural heritage has come to the spotlight as a delegation from Harvard University visited Saudi Arabia’s ancient district.
As part of an official visit, the Harvard delegation toured the Jeddah Historic District to explore its authentic heritage and learn about the Saudi Culture Ministry’s initiatives to revitalize the area, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
During the visit, the delegation toured the alleys of Historic Jeddah – also known as Al-Balad, exploring prominent landmarks, historic buildings, and traditional markets.
Furthermore, they observed the current restoration efforts aimed at preserving the district’s outstanding architectural heritage and reviving its cultural and social heritage.
This visit highlights the growing interest from international universities in Historic Jeddah as a vibrant urban site that seamlessly blends authenticity with contemporary life.
It also showcases the district’s role as a center for cultural exchange, supporting Saudi Arabia’s goal of building a vibrant society that celebrates its past while sharing its rich culture with the global community.
Meanwhile, the visit comes in line with the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to transform Historic Jeddah into a global hub for innovation and learning.
Through strategic initiatives that support both tangible and intangible heritage, the project contributes to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by positioning culture at the heart of the nation’s social and economic fabric and solidifying the Kingdom’s role as a premier global cultural destination.
