Manga Arabia Launches Wa’ed Initiative during Riyadh Book Fair

Manga Arabia, part of the Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG), has announced the launch of its Wa’ed initiative during the Riyadh International Book Fair, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The initiative aims at supporting emerging Saudi and Arab talent in the comics and manga industry.

It also seeks to boost content development and introduce original works to Arab audiences through Manga Arabia’s digital platforms.

Notably, Wa’ed aligns with Manga Arabia’s broader strategy to expand the pool of local creators and improves their skills within a professional ecosystem that meets the aspirations of the new generation.

The company has launched more than ten narratives crafted by more than 30 up-and-coming illustrators and storytellers during the inaugural phase.

This advancement mirrors the Manga Arabia’s commitment to delivering authentic Arabic content that meets the highest international standards and resonates with global audiences.

The company leverages its extensive local and global reach through its two flagship publications — Manga Arabia for Youth and Manga Arabia for Kids — available in both digital and print formats.

Furthermore, it has launched the Manga Arabia Competition to further support emerging writers and illustrators.

The competition has witnessed wide participation from over 1,500 contestants, with prizes exceeding SAR 250,000, over three consecutive editions.

Faris Al-Rashoud, Deputy General Manager of Manga Arabia, said that Wa’ed marks a significant milestone in empowering emerging Saudi and Arab manga creators.

Al-Rashoud noted that supporting national and Arab talents in their early stages serves as a long-term investment in the creative content industry.

“We are proud to feature works by talented newcomers across our platforms, connecting them with extensive audiences and unleashing new horizons toward professional growth,” he added.
