The Saudi Cultural Week has launched its activities at Expo 2025 Osaka, under the supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Culture, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Saudi-Japanese diplomatic relations, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Taking place from July 12-15, 2025, the Saudi Cultural Week showcases the Year of Handicrafts 2025 initiative as a main element of the Kingdom’s cultural identity. The event involves displaying creative industries and handicrafts that showcase the craftsmanship of Saudi artisans, immersing the Japanese and international audiences in an interactive cultural experience.
Furthermore, the Cultural Week highlights key milestones in the Saudi-Japanese ties through a captivating photography exhibition.
Several Saudi entities are taking part in the Cultural Week, including the Saudi Heritage Commission; Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth); Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy; King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah); and Saudi Artisanal Company.
In the light of this, Wrth and the Saudi Artisanal Company host a showcase for traditional Saudi crafts, featuring live shows of palm frond weaving, Sadu weaving, and pottery making by craftsmen from Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Additionally, the event displays Saudi Arabia’s hospitality and generosity in the traditional majlis, offering delicious Saudi coffee and dates, along with a joint musical performance.
Moreover, Wrth highlights a collection of products that integrate Saudi and Japanese crafts, such as Kimono embroidery and Bisht weaving. The Darah foundation hosts a fascinating showcase of the Saudi-Japanese relations and history in photos.
The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy also presents live demonstrations for Saudi and Japanese calligraphy arts.
The Saudi pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka offers a wide array of cultural events and activities, exceeding 700, to highlight Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage and richness through exhilarating experiences.
