The Saudi Ministry of Culture has announced 2025 The Year of Handicrafts to celebrate its rich cultural heritage and honor the creativity and proficiency of its artisans.
Throughout 2025, the Ministry of Culture will host a wide array of events, exhibitions, programs, and competitions to stress the historical and cultural significance of handicrafts as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s authentic heritage and identity.
Moreover, The Year of Handicrafts initiative aims to empower Saudi artisans, by highlighting their skills and supporting their products. The initiative also aims to showcase the cultural, aesthetic, and practical value of handicrafts to encourage artisanry practice and preservation.
In the light of this, the Ministry of Culture launched a dedicated online platform to introduce The Year of Handicrafts 2025 and outline its goals, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Thus, it released the visual identity guide, which provides guidelines regarding the use of the initiative’s logo and identity.
The initiative’s logo draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Saudi Arabia’s handicrafts and the textures of materials used in their manufacturing, such as wood, clay and leather.
The logo also features icons that highlight the Kingdom’s traditional handicrafts. These include metalwork, coffee pots, and palm weaving. The icons have authentic, simple, flexible, and adaptable designs.
The Year of Handicrafts 2025 serves as a significant platform to raise awareness about the importance and value of craft-based professions and products. It also highlights the different types of Saudi handicrafts, enhances their presence in the community’s daily life, and facilitates collaboration between Saudi artisans and local and global communities.
