Saudi Arabia’s Museum of Contemporary Art has hosted a long-awaited art exhibition delving into the parallels between Chinese and Arab cultures.
Themed “The Writings of Today Are a Promise for Tomorrow,” the exhibition showcases works of more than 30 artists.

The event also shows prominent collections of contemporary Chinese art, such as the Donnersberg Collection and the Dslcollection, alongside site-specific works created in Saudi Arabia.
Hosted by the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s Museums Commission, the exhibition offers glimpses of the continuous evolution of contemporary art and its attempts to bridge the gap between the past and the future.

Under the curation of Martina Koppel Yang, the event sheds light on two elements shared by Arab and Chinese cultures: calligraphy and the garden.
“This exhibition, focused on Chinese artists, is the beginning of a series of collaborations with countries worldwide, aimed at fostering cross-cultural dialogue and international exchange,” Ibrahim Al-Sanousi, Acting CEO of the Museums Commission, told Arab News.

The artists seized the opportunity and explained their artworks and how they merged elements of Saudi culture into their works.
“I use discarded objects that I find during my explorations of the city and desert, reassembling them into new creations that reflect this culture,” artist Dexi Tian explained.
