The AlUla Skies Festival 2024 concluded its events in its third edition, featuring a variety of experiences and activities that blended perfectly with the breathtaking desert landscape of the ancient oasis.
The festival, which kicked off on September 26 and lasted for ten days, highlighted AlUla’s status as one of the world’s leading destinations for astronomical tourism. This type of tourism is ideal for those eager to observe celestial bodies and cosmic phenomena in a sustainable environment with clear, unpolluted skies.
During the festival, AlUla achieved a new milestone in environmental preservation, heritage conservation, and its timeless connection to the skies. The Gharameel Nature Reserve and AlUla’s Lighthouse were named the first dark sky sites in the Kingdom and the Gulf region. This marked AlUla as a pioneer in preserving night skies free from light pollution, making it an ideal spot for stargazing.
This designation reflects AlUla’s long-term commitment to protecting and celebrating the natural treasures of the sky, positioning the city as a hub for scientific and space discoveries in the coming years.
The festival also featured a series of hot air balloon rides, offering aviation enthusiasts private flights over the stunning landscapes of the ancient oasis. Other activities included unique nighttime stargazing tours, astrophotography sessions, and a chance to marvel at AlUla’s incredible skies through the “Madaqil Gardens Evening Trail” experience.
The “Magical Journey Between the Stars” experience provided an exciting opportunity to explore the wonders of astronomy, while the “Picnic Under the Stars” offered guests an immersive visual experience paired with exceptional culinary delights.
The festival celebrated AlUla’s starry skies and its stunning landscapes, which have witnessed over 200,000 years of human history.
