Sotheby’s to Hold Second Auction in Saudi Arabia

Sotheby’s, the leading auction house, will hold its second auction in Saudi Arabia under the title “Origins II,” building on the unparalleled success of the inaugural edition in February of this year.

The auction will take place on January 31, 2026 at Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah city, the birthplace of the Kingdom and home to At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also coincides with the opening of the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale.

The Origins II auction will display over 70 rare artworks and masterpieces by trailblazing artists from Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and the world. The auction will hold a public exhibition from January 24-31 to showcase items on sale.

In its second auction in the Kingdom, Sotheby’s will offer unmissable opportunities for new and seasoned collectors, providing a platform for the sale of an exquisite selection of historically important and museum-quality artworks by prominent artists throughout art history.

One of the key rare works on sale is a painting titled “Coffee Shop in Madina Road” by the late Saudi artist Safeya Binzagr, also known as the “spiritual mother” of Saudi Arabia’s contemporary art scene.

Another key highlight is an untitled painting by Mohammed Al-Saleem, who broke records at Sotheby’s London in 2023 with a $1.1 million sale. Al-Saleem is one of the inspiring Saudi artists, famous for his “horizonism” style.
