The Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, has announced the launch of the King Salman Gate project – a major development near the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
Spanning an area of 12 million square meters, the project aims to provide new indoor and outdoor praying spaces to accommodate up to 900,000 worshippers, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Moreover, it aims to improve access to the Grand Mosque, enhance service quality, and enrich the visitor’s religious and cultural experience, aligning with the objectives of the Pilgrim Experience Program.
King Salman Gate is a mixed-use project, featuring residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural spaces to transform Makkah and its central area into a global model for urban development.
The landmark project will also restore around 19,000 square meters of Makkah’s cultural and heritage sites, ensuring the preservation of Makkah’s cultural and historical legacy while blending the city’s rich architectural heritage with modern lifestyle.
In order to provide a more streamlined access to the Grand Mosque, the King Salman Gate project will be connected to public transportation networks.
Furthermore, the project aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, supporting economic diversification goals by creating more than 300,000 jobs by 2036.
The project is developed by RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a PIF company that supports the fund’s strategy by transforming the area around the Grand Mosque to establish Makkah as a global benchmark for real estate development.
