‘Qari’e’: Saudi Arabia Offers Easy Access to Books for Visually Impaired People

The Saudi Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission has launched the “Qari’e” digital platform to offer easy and safe access to several books for visually impaired individuals, including the blind, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

In collaboration with the Authority for the Care of People with Disabilities (APD), “Qari’e” aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision of boosting cultural and intellectual inclusion.

Furthermore, the platform mirrors the Kingdom’s commitment to the Marrakesh Treaty, which aims to offer smooth access to books for persons with visual disabilities as well as those who have difficulties in reading printed materials.

In line with the Saudi Vision 2030, the new initiative plays a central role in developing an integrated knowledge-based society that empowers all people to learn and know.

Through a comprehensive design, the platform takes into account the needs of targeted users such as screen readers and text magnification tools.

“Qari’e” also introduces high-quality content in multiple languages, along with comprehensive technical support and free subscriptions to local and international digital libraries.

Therefore, it represents a new milestone in promoting and protecting the rights of people with disabilities and creating a more inclusive society where all people can thrive.
