Saudi Arabia Celebrates International Museum Day 2025

Saudi Arabia has marked the International Museum Day 2025 through a series of events organized by the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

From May 16-17, 2025, the Kingdom hosted a three-day cultural program to foster cultural identity and enhance sustainable development. The event aligns with the “Year of the Handicrafts” initiative.

Under the theme “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” the Saudi National Museum held a series of panel discussions, interactive workshops, dialogue sessions, museum tours, live demonstrations, and musical performances that showcased the richness and diversity of traditional Saudi arts.

The event drew a large number of attendees, including specialists and those with an interest in culture and heritage. Participants emphasized the importance of fostering community engagement with museums and boosting the cultural presence of museums amid the accelerating changes.

Additionally, the event spotlighted the role of museums in driving local economies by contributing to the labor market with new job opportunities and empowering communities through educational programs.

It also demonstrated how museums can bolster innovation by adopting cutting-edge technologies and advancing positive social change to stay up-to-date with global shifts.

The cultural program underscored the National Museum’s commitment to raising cultural awareness and strengthening the role of museums as vibrant platforms for dialogue and community engagement.

The world observes the International Museum Day on May 18 of each year to highlight the transformative role of museums in society. Its main goal is to raise awareness about the role of museums as an important means of cultural exchange and enrichment of cultures, as well as development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.

This year’s edition explores how museums can navigate and contribute to the world under profound social, technological, and environmental transformations.
