Saudi Arabia is gearing up for a major transformation in the transportation sector, with plans to roll out the first autonomous vehicles this year.
The Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) and Uber Technologies announced a strategic partnership agreement to launch the first self-driving vehicles in the Kingdom, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Under the agreement, the TGA will introduce the first autonomous vehicle rides via the Uber platform in 2025, with onboard drivers in the early stages to ensure safety.
The deployment of autonomous vehicles aims to reduce congestion, support sustainable transport, and accelerate the delivery of seamless mobility solutions for both residents and visitors.

The TGA and Uber will collaborate with self-driving vehicles technology partners to make smart transportation more accessible to consumers. They also stressed their commitment to safety as a top priority. Hence, they will develop a robust regulatory framework to boost transport safety and create safer roads and smarter mobility solutions for all.
Signed on the sidelines of the Saudi-US Investment Forum, the strategic partnership aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at achieving revolutionary transformation in the Kingdom’s economy, infrastructure and transport sectors.
Moreover, the agreement underscores the TGA’s commitment to embracing modern technologies and smart mobility innovations in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
