Google Uses Artificial Intelligence to Predict Early Signs of Disease

Artificial intelligence technologies have enabled Google to develop one of its foundational models to predict early signs of disease using audio signals.
And Google’s AI division can benefit from “bioacoustics,” a field that blends biology with sounds, helping researchers partially gain insights into how the presence of pathogens affects the human voice.
This technology can also act as an alternative where users need nothing more than the microphone of their smartphones in places where access to quality health care is difficult.
Google’s AI model based on bioacoustics is called “Health Acoustic Representations.” It has been applied to 300 million audio samples, each two seconds long, including coughing, sneezing, and breathing patterns. The AI model can detect subtle differences in patients’ coughing patterns, allowing it to identify early signs of disease improvement or deterioration.
