Saudi Arabia Unveils Ambitious Plans to Boost Cinema Industry with New Incentives

Turki Al-Sheikh, the influential Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has announced groundbreaking initiatives aimed at revitalizing the country’s cinema industry. These initiatives include a significant increase in the number of cinema screens and a substantial reduction in ticket prices, signaling a bold step towards enhancing entertainment options for Saudi residents.

Taking to his official Facebook account, Al-Sheikh revealed, “Saudi Arabia is set to expand its cinema landscape and make movie experiences more affordable for its citizens. This will be achieved through a comprehensive package of discounts on licensing fees, with some reductions reaching an impressive 90%.”

The Saudi Film Authority’s board of directors has unanimously approved these transformative measures. They have decided to slash the operating costs for permanent cinema theaters by a staggering 88% in cities classified as (A) and (B). Moreover, cinemas in cities classified as (C) will see a remarkable 96% reduction in operating costs.

In addition to the operating cost reductions, the board has also greenlit significant cuts in the fees for issuing cinema operation licenses. Permanent cinemas in cities classified as (A) will benefit from an 86% reduction, while those in (B) and (C) cities will see reductions of 84% and 88%, respectively.

The Saudi Film Authority emphasized that these reductions aim to make the Saudi cinema sector more competitive both regionally and internationally. By reducing the fees for practicing the activity and operating screens, Saudi Arabia is positioning its cinema industry as a major player in the global entertainment landscape.

With these ambitious plans, Saudi Arabia is not only aiming to enrich its cultural and entertainment offerings but also to stimulate economic growth by attracting investments and creating job opportunities in the flourishing cinema sector.
