A new Arabic-language thriller being filmed in Saudi Arabia is bringing together leading regional talent, international actors and an acclaimed Hollywood director.
Titled Al Amir (The Prince), the six-part series will be directed by Stephen Hopkins, whose credits include the television drama 24 and the action film Predator 2.
The project is backed by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and produced by Sela Studios in partnership with MBC Group and streaming platform Shahid. Production will take place at Al-Hisn Big Time Studios in Riyadh, with additional filming scheduled in key locations across Cairo.
The cast is led by Egyptian star Ahmed Ezz, alongside Amina Khalil, Khaled El-Sawy, Samy El-Sheikh, Yasmina El-Abd and Hamza Diab.
Spanish actor Pedro Alonso, widely known for his role as Berlin in Netflix’s global hit Money Heist, is also set to appear. Joining him is Turkish actress Tuba Büyüküstün, marking her first role in a multilingual production led by Arab creators.
Based on an original concept by GEA Chairman Turki Alalshikh and written by Egyptian screenwriter Salah El-Jheiny, the action-thriller follows an Egyptian intelligence officer assigned to infiltrate an international terrorist organization.
As the mission escalates, he is forced to assume the identity of a notorious fugitive, drawing him into a dangerous world of espionage, deception and international intrigue, according to the series synopsis.
7 Dogs
The announcement comes as the Saudi-filmed action blockbuster 7 Dogs continues to attract attention following its star-studded premiere in Cairo in May.
Also based on a story by Alalshikh, 7 Dogs centers on elite Interpol officer Khalid Al-Azzazi, played by Ahmed Ezz, who captures a senior figure in a covert global crime syndicate portrayed by Karim Abdel Aziz. When the organization resurfaces a year later to distribute a deadly new drug known as Pink Lady across the Middle East, Khalid is forced into an uneasy alliance with his former captive to dismantle the network from within.
The film features an international ensemble cast that includes Monica Bellucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and German-Chinese martial arts actor Max Huang.
Egyptian actress Tara Emad and Lebanese actress Sandy Bella also appear as elite Interpol agents. Finally, Saudi television veteran Nasser Al-Qasabi plays General Nasser, opposite Egyptian actor Sayed Ragab as General Sabri.
