Saudi Arabia’s signature Taif Rose has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, in a remarkable milestone underscoring the richness of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.
On December 3, 2024, the Saudi Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Heritage Commission, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, announced that Saudi Arabia succeeded in inscribing the cultural practices related to Taif roses on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The unwavering support of Saudi Arabia’s leadership for the culture sector has enhanced the global presence of the Kingdom’s culture, Prince Badr noted. He also said that the inscription of Taif roses emphasizes Saudi Arabia’s efforts to preserve its intangible cultural heritage, ensure its sustainability and pass it to future generations, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
With this registration, Taif roses join other Saudi elements on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. These include Alardah, Majlis, Arabic coffee, falconry, Al-Qatt Al-Asiri, date palm, Sadu weaving, Arabic calligraphy, Alheda’a, Khawlani coffee, metal engraving, and the Harees dish.
